Dear patients,
We wanted to keep you informed of some changes we are making to the way we use the AskmyGP system.
The way we are using AskmyGP at the moment means:
- You are unable to book an appointment with a GP in advance
- You are only able to put a request on the system on a specific day that the required GP is working
- We deal with every request (even routine enquiries) on the same day which is resulting in the system being turned off earlier in the day to deal with the demand
- Because we deal with all requests on the same day you often don’t get continuity of care in terms of being able to speak to/see the same GP.
With the changes we are implementing we are hoping this will result in:
- Being able to book a routine appointment with a GP in advance
- Being able to put a request on for any clinician during the systems opening hours
- Reducing the amount of days the system switches off early because we can manage demand more effectively
- Increased continuity of care.
From tomorrow (28th February), when you add an enquiry onto the AskmyGP system or call up for our reception team to do this for you, you will be asked an additional question. The system will ask if your request is routine or urgent. We will aim to respond to routine enquires within 48 hours and if necessary, offer an appointment within two weeks. If the enquiry is added on as urgent our team will get back to you the same day. If you are unsure then there is no need to worry, each enquiry will still be triaged by a duty doctor who will be able to assess the urgency of the request.
If you have any queries or concerns about this change then we’d love to hear from you via email: cpicb.burwellsurgery.admin@nhs.net
Many thanks,
The Burwell Surgery
